Restorative

Crowns, bridges and veneers, three different fixes

A crown covers a tooth, a bridge replaces one, and a veneer changes how one looks. Dr. Matthew Tuft and Dr. Hunter Brittain fit all three at Copperstone Dental in Meridian, with same day options on both crowns and veneers.

Chapter 01

Crown, bridge or veneer, which problem each one solves

A crown is a full cap over a tooth that's been weakened by decay, a large filling or a root canal, made from ceramics, porcelain or composite resin depending on where it sits and what it needs to withstand. A bridge is two or more crowns anchoring a false tooth across a gap left by a missing tooth, so the teeth on either side of the gap do the holding rather than leaving it open.

A veneer is different from both. It's a thin porcelain shell bonded over the front of a tooth that's already there, used for discoloration, chips, wear or minor misalignment rather than damage that goes all the way through the tooth. If the tooth itself is sound and the problem is how it looks, a veneer is usually the answer. If the tooth is compromised or missing, a crown or bridge is.

Same day, and what that changes

Copperstone offers same day crowns and same day veneer service, which removes the second appointment that used to be standard for both. Instead of a temporary crown you have to be careful with for two weeks while a lab makes the permanent one, the tooth is prepared and the final restoration fitted in one visit.

That matters most for a front tooth, where a temporary is the thing you're most self-conscious about, and for anyone who can't easily fit two dental appointments into a busy month.

Chapter 03

The veneer sequence

A veneer still runs through a real process even on a same day track. It starts with a consultation to talk through what's bothering the patient about the tooth and what a veneer can realistically fix. Digital photos and impressions go to the lab so the shade and shape match the rest of the smile rather than standing out.

On a traditional timeline, temporary veneers are worn while the permanent ones are made, then the final veneers are fitted and permanently bonded at a second visit. The same day option compresses that into one appointment for patients who qualify for it.

Caitlin P's crown, in her words

Caitlin P, a Copperstone patient, wrote that what set the practice apart for her was “constant attention to my comfort throughout the crown-making process,” adding that she's normally a nervous wreck at the dentist but the office's atmosphere put her at ease.

That's the same visit whether the tooth needing a crown was flagged during a routine exam on /services/general-dentistry or came from a root canal on /services/root-canals.
